Stopping-up of de Montfort Way
We thank residents who responded to DfT re the application to ‘stop-up’ de Montfort Way. It was extraordinarily difficult to ensure a satisfactory notice was posted and drawings eventually displayed locally.

We submitted a robust objection, a petition signed by 493 residents and an effective DVD of residents protesting re the inconvenient / unsafe pedestrian routes proposed. The DfT deadline was 13th May; to date no response has been received.

Protocol is for the applicant to negotiate with objectors; if objections cannot be resolved within a reasonable time, it is usual to hold a public enquiry. No news is good news! Please notify us if you are contacted in connection with your personal comments.

Tesco scheme to be revised !!
Information recently received from Ward Cllrs:Tesco has entered into early discussions with Council Officers (Planning Dept) about revisions to their scheme at Cannon Park.

Tesco’s intention is to brief Ward Cllrs. and then...consult with local residents before any formal planning submission’. Westwood Cllrs. are to be involved. Encouraging – but no more! Nothing is yet known. Mention of a planning application indicates that revisions envisaged will not be trivial. CPCA views the current scheme as being critically flawed and would welcome alterations which address our concerns. Retention of de Montfort Way, however, is viewed as fundamental and an issue not open to negotiation. Central Govt., RTPI and Coventry C.C. emphasise the importance of early involvement of the community; it is not considered sufficient to invite comment once a design has been worked- up. We will expect that to apply here.

Estate Parking
It is understood that residents living near the ‘Greens’ have been circulated by the City Council to establish likely demand for residents’ parking passes i/c bays to be marked out in Bransford Ave.

Committee
Clearly there are busy times ahead. Involvement of residents willing to devote time and effort to protect Cannon Park is essential. Mike Parson (Acting Chairman) 2, Collins Grove David Hull (Hon. Sec.) 1, Bransford Ave
