TESCO PLANNING APPLICATION:

Revised Tesco Scheme – Update Last Monday senior representatives of Tesco, Ward Councillors (Wainbody and Westwood) with planning officers met informally to discuss the proposals for Cannon Park.

Tesco is considering a revised scheme that responds to a number of concerns expressed by local residents. Tesco wishes to discuss these with representatives of CPCA committee, the Church etc. to obtain feedback and comments in advance of consultation taking place with the local community.

It is encouraging that a Tesco representative contacted me later that day with a view to discussing concerns and that the community is to be involved at a time when it can ‘make a difference’. It is hoped to meet, probably in mid – late October - in advance of consultation with residents at a later date.

Briefly, current thinking is:

Area of the Tesco store similar to the 2009 scheme but reconfigured and located at ground level.

H.G.V. access ramp and first floor service bay omitted; bay now at ground level.

Under-store car park omitted.

The petrol station to remain in its current location.

All flats omitted.

Car parking, with possible exception of the disabled, on two storeys, to the east of de Montfort Way.

The above is illustrated on the PLAN. It is emphasised that this should be regarded as a preliminary ‘discussion document’ and NOT a firm proposal. Comments are welcome but probably more appropriate later - following possible amendments; any will be forwarded to Tesco.
